Why Vertical Farming?


Vertical Farming holds the promise of achieving much higher food density and far less water and pesticide usage than traditional farming, but limitations such as power usage and difficulty growing many traditional crops in this way have made the transition difficult. Many vertical farming startups failed in the last decade. Florida Hanging Gardens will focus on energy-efficient solar-based vertical farming with gravity-fed rotating racks and semi-transparent solar cells which can harvest only the frequencies of light that the plants don't need. Florida Hanging Gardens will be exploring how to expand the growstock to include vining fruits, rooting vegetables, and ornamentals (of course!).
